David G. Hewett is a with honours from UQ, he undertook clinical and research training at the RBWH, before completing a post-doctoral fellowship in advanced colonoscopy with Professor Douglas Rex at Indiana University. David’s clinical interests include colorectal cancer screening and the technical performance of colonoscopy, including detection, advanced imaging and resection, and endoscopic training. His research focuses on improving the effectiveness of colonoscopy, and he has published widely on new colonoscopic techniques, technologies and methods of training. He has parallel interests in health systems research and medical education, including quality of patient care, intergroup relations and procedural skills training. David is active internationally in colorectal cancer policy and training initiatives. He is a member of advisory boards for the Australian Bowel Cancer Screening Program and the Asian Novel Bio-Imaging and Intervention Group, and the editorial board for the Journal of the Anus, Rectum and Colon. He was recently elected to the incoming board of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, having served as GESA director of training (2013-2014) and specialist training committee member for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (2010-2015).
