Dr Stephen Philcox is a senior staff specialist gastroenterologist and interventional endoscopist working at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, NSW. Dr Philcox performs a broad range of endoscopic procedures including ERCP, diagnostic and therapeutic EUS, EMR and ESD and has a longstanding interest in diseases of the pancreas. Dr Philcox studied medicine at the University of Sydney, graduating with Honours. Physician training was commenced at Royal North Shore Hospital, with advanced training in gastroenterology undertaken at Nepean Hospital and a fellowship year in interventional endoscopy at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Brisbane culminating in becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2007. This was followed by a dedicated fellowship in advanced endoscopy and stint as an attending at Duke University Medical Centre and Durham VA Hospitals in North Carolina, USA before returning to work in Australia in 2010. Dr Philcox is the current president of the Australasian Pancreatic Club, a group of scientists and clinicians focussed on advancing both clinical education and scientific research around diseases of the pancreas. Dr Philcox has contributed to several publications and continues to be involved in projects involving EUS and the pancreas.
